Comunicado | Chile Mejor sin TLC se reúne con embajadora de la UE en Chile
Durante una reunión con la Plataforma Chile Mejor sin TLC, Stella Zervoudaki, embajadora de la Unión Europea, declaró que las negociaciones sobre la actualización del acuerdo económico con Chile no han comenzado oficialmente, pero que estima que el acuerdo sea sometido a la consideración de Parlamento chileno, como lo hará el Europarlamento.
Con la iniciativa de explicar las críticas al Gobierno chileno en temas de transparencia, participación ciudadana y derechos humanos que presenta la discusión de los Tratados de Libre Comercio en el país, integrantes de la Plataforma se reunieron con la embajadora de la Unión Europea en Chile. La representante diplomática afirmó que las temáticas tratadas son de alta preocupación de la Unión Europea y que su espíritu ha sido elevar los estándares de los acuerdos internacionales en temas como fiscalización, derechos laborales, participación de la sociedad civil y transparencia de documentos y datos.
Respecto al inicio de las negociaciones de la actualización del acuerdo de la UE con Chile, la embajadora afirmó que éstas no han comenzado de modo oficial, pero que sí se han iniciado las conversaciones políticas respectivas para preparar el marco de los temas que formarán parte de la futura actualización del acuerdo. Zervoudaki aseguró que, cuando se llegue a consenso por ambas partes, el documento en cuestión irá a buscar su ratificación al Parlamento europeo, por lo que, sin que le corresponda pronunciarse sobre la institucionalidad chilena, estima que en nuestro país podría producirse una situación equivalente.
A esta reunión asistieron Esteban Silva (Fundación Constituyente XXI), María Cecilia Bartholin (Antimafia Chile), Bárbara Rojas (Fenpruss), Paulina Acevedo (Observatorio Ciudadano), Patricio Véjar (Centro Ecuménico Martin Luther King), Lucía Sepúlveda (RAP-Chile), Claudio Rojas (Antimafia Chile) y Patricio López.
