Como plataforma Chile Mejor sin TPP expresamos nuestra más profunda solidaridad y apoyo irrestricto a Rodrigo Mundaca, secretario General del Movimiento de Defensa del Agua, la Tierra y la Protección del Medio Ambiente (Modatima) -organización que integra nuestra plataforma- a Verónica Vilches y a todos los luchadores del Valle de Petorca amenazados de muerte.
Desde hace años que los habitantes vienen denunciando el robo de agua en la zona en manos de políticos como Edmundo Pérez Yoma (DC), por lo que han sido amedrentados, denunciados por calumnias y ahora violentados y amenazados de muerte. Esto, tras la publicación del reportaje “Avocado and stolen water”, de Danwatch, que provocó que la agrupación de supermercados de Dinamarca suspendiera la exportación de paltas chilenas, ya que su proceso productivo implica violar el derecho humano al agua en cantidad y en calidad por parte de la población local.
Es inaceptable que en un país que se jacta de su democracia y tiene palabras prestas para criticar a otras naciones en esta materia, haga vista gorda frente a la grave situación hídrica que vive el país, que viola un derecho humano básico consagrado por la Organización de Naciones Unidas, y que se ampara en la colusión político empresarial. Asimismo, es inadmisible que se busque acallar la lucha por un Chile más justo a través del sicariato.
Es estrictamente necesario que las aguas vuelvan a ser un bien nacional de uso público, que se derogue el actual Código de Aguas (1981) y el Artículo 19 numeral 24 de la Constitución dictatorial que consagra este recurso como un bien económico.
También hacemos un llamado a participar de 5ta Marcha y Encuentro Plurinacional por la Defensa de las Aguas y de los Territorios que se realizará en Concepción el 22 de abril. Además invitamos a firmar por la campaña Defensores del agua en Petorca están en riesgo
