Comunicado | Advertimos intento de Japón de reflotar Acuerdo Transpacífico sin Estados Unidos
La Plataforma señala que potencia asiática pretende ocupar el lugar de Estados Unidos en el Tratado y “aprovecharse de los países pequeños”.
Esta semana Japón sorprendió con un nuevo intento por resucitar el Tratado Transpacífico, acuerdo dado por muerto tras la salida de Estados Unidos. El gobierno nipón busca, a través de las cláusulas de este tratado, elaborar un conjunto común de normas comerciales que pueden adoptarse en toda la región del Asia-Pacífico.
El ministro de Finanzas, Taro Aso, se reunió con el Vicepresidente estadounidense, Mike Pence, este martes para la primera ronda de conversaciones económicas bilaterales, en el marco de su visita de 10 días a Asia.
Japón afirmó que quiere presionar contra el creciente “proteccionismo” y crear un orden económico abierto y libre en la región, tal como anunciaron después de la cumbre de ministros de comercio en Viña del Mar en marzo de este año.
Camila Montecinos de la organización internacional GRAIN y miembro de la Plataforma, afirmó que los intentos de Japón de seguir adelante con el TPP son sólo una muestra más que este tipo de acuerdos continúan siendo una amenaza grave.
“Tanto el TPP, como las re-negociaciones bilaterales que está impulsando el gobierno de Estados Unidos, buscan otorgar privilegios adicionales a los grandes capitales a costa de derechos básicos de la población y obligando al país a renunciar a su soberanía” precisó.
Además Montecinos destacó que “Todo ello con la falsa promesa de mejorar la situación económica de todos nosotros. Es importante movilizarnos contra esta nueva ola de tratados de libre comercio, si queremos avanzar hacia la educación gratuita y de calidad, el fin de las AFPs y la recuperación de la tierra, las aguas y los territorios”.
Respecto a la iniciativa por retomar el TPP, Carlos Figueroa, militante de Revolución Democrática e integrante de Chile Mejor sin TPP, considera que «Japón quiere aprovecharse de países pequeños, como el nuestro. Y el problema es que tratados como el TPP no traerán beneficios para Chile y continuarán con la lógica de quedarnos pegados en un comercio del siglo XX».
Para Figueroa es necesario que en materia de comercio, Chile tenga que pasar a la ofensiva y buscar aliados que quieran comerciar bajo nuevas reglas. “El cuidado del medio ambiente, la dignidad de los trabajadores, una economía más innovadora y que potencie la industria local. Si no, seguiremos en la misma lógica de disminuir el ámbito de atribuciones del Estado y dejar que el mercado gobierne nuestras vidas» sentenció.
Cabe recordar que los principales negociadores del TPP comenzarán conversaciones a principios del próximo mes en Canadá, antes de que sus ministros de comercio se reúnan en Vietnam. La Plataforma Chile Mejor sin TPP afirmó que seguirá alerta frente a la ofensiva de este tipo de acuerdos comerciales hechos para los inversores y en contra de las posibilidades de transformación social a través de la política. Criticaron, consiguientemente, a los gobiernos entreguistas que promueven tratados que subordinan a los pueblos.
